ABOUT ALOHA KAUAI
“Aloha Kauaʻi,” a fundraiser for Kauaʻi, will be held in downtown Honolulu on Thursday, May 24, 2018. The event will be in the parking lot at Merchant and Nimitz Highway, across from Murphy’s Bar & Grill, beginning at 5:30 p.m. and ending at 8:30 p.m. Tickets, at $150 per person, can be bought online at https://alohakauai.eventbrite.com. Corporate sponsorships of $5,000, which includes 20 event tickets, or $2,500, for 10 event tickets, are also encouraged.
Kauaʻi residents are known for their resilience and willingness to help each other during times of crisis, especially after the devastation following Hurricane Iniki. Once again, they are facing a long road to recovery following the historic flooding on April 15, 2018. They need our kokua!
“Although parts of Oʻahu experienced flood damage from the same storm system that devastated Kauaʻi, we were approached by friends from Kauaʻi, who now live in Honolulu, to do a fundraiser for their home island. Of course, we’re happy to do what we can,” said Don Murphy, one of the event organizers.
Co-organizer Kurt Osaki, who was born and raised on Kauaʻi said, “We’re hoping to feature some iconic food items of the island at the fundraiser such as “flying saucers,” “UFO’s,” and other island favorites. Food stations from a number of local Honolulu restaurants will serve their specialty dishes. We’re also partnering with Hawaiian Music Live, an Internet radio station, for entertainment and live streaming from the event, so people around the world can tune in.”
Proceeds from “Aloha Kauaʻi” will go to organizations, residents, and businesses on Kauaʻi that need it most or where needs are not otherwise being met by other recovery efforts. A committee of Kauaʻi residents, representing different segments of the island -- from education, government, businesses, non-profits, community organizations, farmers, and concerned citizens – will review and decide where the funds should be used. They would have the most knowledge of where the needs are greatest.
We hope you will join us in supporting our many Kaua’i friends and family who were adversely impacted by these recent floods. Your consideration and generosity is much appreciated!
